Attractive Vintage Tribal Kazak Lenkoran Runner (Hallway rug), c1950

The medallions called ‘Tosbaga’ which means tortoise with squares with double T motifs in between called ‘Sainak’. The weaver(s) took inspiration off tortoises from the nearby Caspian Sea. However you perceive it, its a beautiful old Lenkoran rug from the Caucasus. The brash in the field has produces a shifting depth of colour that creates an illusion of gently moving water in a deep lagoon.
